چکیده
Two important criteria of wireless body area networks (WBANs) are low power consumption and delay. These can be met by designing efficient medium access control (MAC) protocols. In this paper, two TDMA-based MAC protocols proposed. The first protocol, TM–MAC makes use only a main radio. second proposed TWM–MAC WUR alongside the compared with different categories standard it is shown that they outperform ones improving consumes 55% less than Scheduled Channel Polling (SCP–MAC) protocol for high traffic scenario on high-rate platform while TM-MAC 85% SCP–MAC. For scenario, performs 53.5% better SCP–MAC 77.5% very (VLPM) low-rate platforms respectively. An improvement in delay was observed situations. surpasses VLPM 81.1% terms latency 3.2% scenario.

Managing and controlling such a network is a challenging task. An efficient media access control (MAC) protocol to handle proper management of media access can considerably improve the performance of such a network. Power...
متن کاملMAC Protocols in Wireless Body Area Networks: A Review
Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) has emerged as an advanced technology for e-healthcare where sensors are placed in, on, and around the human body to monitor various physiological signs. To design appropriate protocols in Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN), issues such as reliability, latency and energy consumption need to be considered. The MAC Layer is the most suitable layer to address these...
متن کاملComparing Energy-Saving MAC Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks
Applications for wireless sensor networks have notably different characteristics and requirements from standard WLAN applications. Low energy consumption is the most important consideration. The low message rate that is typical for sensor network applications and the relaxed latency requirements allow for significant reductions in energy consumption of the radio. In this article we study the en...
متن کاملThe UWB Channel in Medical Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs)
UWB is a technology that has several advantages when considered for a Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN). A WBAN is a network with its communications devices in very close proximity to the human body. In medical applications these devices are connected to sensors that can monitor vital signs such as ECG, temperature, and mobility. A WBAN allows for the remote monitoring of a patient’s health min...
متن کاملA Power Saving MAC Protocol for Wireless Networks
This paper presents a protocol which improves on the power saving mechanism in the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). In the power saving mechanism (PSM) for DCF, all nodes are synchronized by beacons. In each beacon interval, there is a fixed time interval called the ATIM window where every node has to be awake. During the ATIM window, a source node informs a destination node...
